Directions

Public transport:

  • From the Airport Paderborn/Lippstadt to Paderborn Hauptbahnhof (main railway station): Time tables for bus line 400 (fast) and 460. You can buy tickets from the driver. Taking a taxi costs about 30 Euro.
  • From the Hauptbahnhof to the University or Hotel Campus Lounge take bus line 4 (to Dahl) or 9 (to Kaukenberg) and leave the bus at the bus stop "Uni/Südring". There is a bus about every 15 minutes, less frequent in the evening.

Late Arrivals

  • Hotel Campus Lounge: Reception is open until 12pm. For those arriving after midnight: at the entrance is posted a phone number which you can call to get in.
  • Meinwerk-Institut: Reception is open Mo - Fr, 7am - 8pm,  and Sa - Su, 7.30am - 11am. For those arriving later: please call the hotel during the opening hours for special arrangements.
  • Hotel Kaup: Reception is open until 10pm. For those arriving after 10pm: call the hotel during the opening hours for special arrangements.

Registration

There is no formal registration procedure. However, you will receive a small conference package with all relevant information and a name tag on Tuesday during the first coffee break in the morning. We ask every participant to pay a conference fee of 20 EUR (10 EUR for students) to cover expenses for coffee breaks, a party on Tuesday, and the conference dinner on Thursday. You will get a receipt, confirming also your participation in the workshop.

Reimbursement

Some participants will receive a reimbursement for their travel or local expenses. Please see one of the local organisers either Wednesday or Friday during the first coffee break in the morning.

Lecture Rooms

The conference lectures take place in the lecture hall D1, which is located on the ground floor of part D of the main university building. The Kolloquium on Tuesday is in the lecture hall D2, while the Festkolloquim on Thursday is in the lecture hall G.

Internet Access

There are clusters of PCs (running MS Windows and Linux) located in D3.301, D3.339 and D3.344 in part D of the main university building on the third floor. There is also a WLAN for those bringing their own notebook. Login names and passwords will be provided during the conference.

A photo of all participants will be taken on Thursday at 16.30 before the Festkolloquium.

Coffee Breaks

Coffee, tea etc. is served during the breaks in room D2.314 (second floor of part D of the main building).

Welcome Party

There will be a party on Tuesday, starting at 7.30 pm, at a Biergarten (Gaststätte Weyher, Haxtergrund 8). This place is a few kilometers south of the university in walking distance (a beautiful walk, depending on the weather). A bus will take participants to the Haxtergrund and later back to the hotel. The bus leaves after the Kolloquium from the Warburger Strasse.

Conference Dinner

There will be a conference dinner on Thursday, starting at 7.30 pm, at the university restaurant Mensula which is attached to the Mensa. Please use the stairs located outside of the building to access the restaurant. Please register for the dinner when you pay your conference fee.

Lunch

There are several options for lunch:

  • Mensa (open: 11:15 - 14:00): salads, pasta, fish, meat,...
  • Cafeteria (open: 8:00-15:45): beverages, coffee, cake, rolls,...
  • Pizzeria (open: 11:30 - 14:00): all kinds of pizzas
  • Pub (open: Mo.-Thu. 8:00-24:00, Fr. 8:00-18:00): beverages, coffee, beer, cake, rolls,...

There is a big shopping mall, the "Südringcenter", at the south end of the campus with a lot of fast food and snack-bars.

Restaurants in Paderborn

  • Bella Vista: Warburger Straße 91.
    Leave the university via the main entrance, cross the parking space and the street "Warburger Straße" go to the north about 100 meters and on the right hand side is the restaurant.  Italian food, good Pizza, medium price level.
  • Ratskeller: Rathausplatz 1.
    In the basement of the ancient city hall in the center of the town. Traditional german food, tourist feature, medium price level.
  • Kachelöfchen: Kilianplatz 2.
    About 1 km west of the university. Various kinds of beer, rich food, inexpensive.

  • Der grüne Frosch: Im Lichtenfelde 4.
    About 500 m south-east of the university. Various kinds of beer, rich food, inexpensive.
  • Balthasar: Warburger Straße 28.
    Leave the university via the main entrance, cross the parking space. Go north along the "Warburger Straße", and after about 500 meters the Balthasar is on the left hand side. Gourmet restaurant with a Michelin star, expensive but very good value.
  • Feuerstein: Kamp 31, in the city center.
    Starting at the city hall, you go south and follow the street which turns left. After 200 meters the Feuerstein is on the left hand side. All kinds of food, inexpensive, also good for just having a beer.

  • Spago: Kamp 31.
    Same address as the Feuerstein. Good italian food, medium price level.
  • Il Postino: Jühnenplatz 1-3.
    In the city center close to the city hall (located in the "Rathaus Passage"). Very good italian food, high price level.

  • Bombay-Dreams: Kisau 6.
    In the city center (Paderquellgebiet, the region where the river Pader has its origin). Good indian food, medium price level.

  • Galerie-Hotel Abdinghof: Bachstr. 1.
    In a historic building in the city center (Paderquellgebiet, the region where the river Pader has its origin). Very good food and friendly atmosphere, high price level, with small dishes at medium level.

In the street "Kamp" in the city center, there are a lot of bars and restaurants. Starting at the city hall, you go south and follow the street which turns left. Quite close to the city hall, in the "Rathaus Passage"  the "Cafe Central" is a recommendable place for having coffee, tea, or beer. Another one is the Espresso Bar "Sergio", just next to the restaurant Il Postino.

In the street "Heiersstraße" (orthogonal to the "Kamp", close to Gästehaus Meinwerk) there are also a lot of pubs and restaurants, some of them fast food. Two of the recommendable pubs are e.g. the "Lenz", Heiersstraße 35 and (very close) the "Highlander Scottish Pub", Ükern 28.

Sightseeing

  • Paderborner Dom: The Cathedral is built in the 13th century. Exercise: Look for the "Drei-Hasen-Fenster" (window with 3 bunnies) - the emblem of Paderborn: "Der Hasen und der Löffel drei, und doch hat jeder Hase zwei."
  • Rathaus and Rathausplatz: The city hall is built in the 17th century, following the architectural style of the Weser Renaissance.
