Directions

Public transport:

  • From the Airport Paderborn/Lippstadt to Paderborn Hauptbahnhof (main railway station): Time tables for bus line 400 (fast) and 460. You can buy tickets from the driver. Taking a taxi costs about 30 Euro.
  • From the Hauptbahnhof to the University or Hotel Campus Lounge take bus line 4 (to Dahl) or 9 (to Kaukenberg) and leave the bus at the bus stop "Uni/Südring". There is a bus about every 15 minutes, less frequent in the evening.

Late Arrivals

  • Hotel Campus Lounge: Reception is open until 12pm. For those arriving after midnight: at the entrance is posted a phone number which you can call to get in.
  • Meinwerk-Institut: Reception is open Mo - Fr, 7.30am - 8pm,  and Sa - Su, 8am - 11am. For those arriving later: please call the hotel during the opening hours for special arrangements.
  • Hotel Kaup: Reception is open until 10pm. For those arriving after 10pm: call the hotel during the opening hours for special arrangements.

There is no formal registration, in particular no registration fee.

Lectures

The conference lectures take place in the lecture hall D2, which is located on the ground floor of part D of the main university building. The Festkolloquium on Friday afternoon takes place in the Auditorium maximum.

Reception at Schloss Neuhaus

Schloss Neuhaus is a village which is located a few kilomters away from Paderborn in north-west direction.  To get there from the university, a bus has been arranged for the conference participants (leaving from the Auditorium maximum ca 6 pm). This bus has ca 50 seats. So participants with private cars are strongly encouraged to offer additional seats. Drivers follow the direction to Schloss Neuhaus; parking around the Schloss is usually no problem. The reception ends at 10 pm and then the bus will return to the hotels.

Computers

There are clusters of PCs (running MS Windows and Linux) located in D3.301, D3.339 and D3.344 in part D of the main university building on the third floor. All conference participants share the same account. Login name and password will be made public during the conference.

Coffee breaks

Coffee, tea etc. is served during the breaks in rooms D2.343 and D2.314 (second floor of part D of the main building).

Lunch

On Friday, there are several options for lunch:

  • Mensa (open: 11:15 - 14:00): salads, pasta, fish, meat,...
  • Cafeteria (open: 8:00-15:45): beverages, coffee, cake, rolls,...
  • Pizzeria (open: 11:30 - 14:00): all kinds of pizzas
  • Pub (open 8:00-18:00): beverages, coffee, beer, cake, rolls,...

On Saturday, lunch is arranged at the Pub. The other places are closed.

There is a big shopping mall, the "Südringcenter", at the south end of the campus with a lot of fast food and snack-bars.

Restaurants in Paderborn

  • Bella Vista: Warburger Straße 91.
    Leave the university via the main entrance, cross the parking space and the street "Warburger Straße" go to the north about 100 meters and on the right hand side is the restaurant.  Italian food, good Pizza, inexpensive.
  • Ratskeller: Rathausplatz 1.
    In the basement of the ancient city hall in the center of the town. Traditional german food, tourist feature, medium price level.
  • Kachelöfchen, Kilianplatz 2.
    About 1 km west of the university. Various kinds of beer, rich food, inexpensive.
  • Balthasar: Warburger Straße 28.
    Leave the university via the main entrance, cross the parking space. Go north along the "Warburger Straße", and after about 500 meters the Balthasar is on the left hand side. Gourmet restaurant with a Michelin star, expensive.
  • Feuerstein: Kamp 31, in the city center.
    Starting at the city hall, you go south and follow the street which turns left. After 200 meters the Feuerstein is on the left hand side. All kinds of food, inexpensive, also good for just having a beer.
  • Il Postino: Jühnenplatz 1-3.
    In the city center close to the city hall (located in the "Rathaus Passage"). Good italian food, medium price level.
  • Sai Gon, Neuhäuser Straße 35.
    About 500 meters north west from the city center. Vietnamese food, inexpensive.

In the street "Kamp" in the city center, there are a lot of bars and restaurants. Starting at the city hall, you go south and follow the street which turns left. Quite close to the city hall, in the "Rathaus Passage"  the "Cafe Central" is one recommendable place for having coffee, tea, or beer.

In the street "Heiersstraße" (orthogonal to the "Kamp", close to Gästehaus Meinwerk) there are also a lot of pubs and restaurants, some of them fast food. Two of the recommendable pubs are e.g. the "Lenz", Heiersstraße 35 and (very close) the "Highlander Scottish Pub", Ükern 28.

Sightseeing

  • Paderborner Dom: The Cathedral is built in the 13th century. Exercise: Look for the "Drei-Hasen-Fenster" (window with 3 bunnies) - the emblem of Paderborn: "Der Hasen und der Löffel drei, und doch hat jeder Hase zwei."
  • Rathaus and Rathausplatz: The city hall is built in the 17th century, following the architectural style of the Weser Renaissance.
