Titel des Vortrags: Large Cardinals and Determinacy: The Strongest Propositions of Mathematics

Am Mittwoch, dem 14. Juli 2010 hält

Prof. Dr. Aki Kanamori (Boston University and Lichtenberg Kolleg Göttingen)

um 18:00 Uhr im Hörsaal D2 einen Vortrag mit dem Thema

"Large Cardinals and Determinacy: The Strongest Propositions of Mathematics"

Zu dieser Veranstaltung sind alle Interessenten herzlich eingeladen.

Abstract:

I pursue a deliberate thematic line from the beginnings of set theory to the present-day, the investigation of what turns out to be the strongest propositions of mathematics. This investigation spans a broad range of sophisticated mathematics and centers on postulations of axoms of strong infinity and of the determinateness of games. The most recent work in inner model theory has reawakened possibilities for a new approach to the oldest problem in set theory, Cantor's Continuum Problem.
